Why God Chose You!

How to be and do what you have been called for.

(John 15:16 KJV)  Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

Heavenly Father: I come to you today seeking your wisdom and grace. Have mercy on me a sinner, forgive me of my sins and pour out your Holy Spirit upon me that I might be anointed to fulfill the great calling for which I have been called. And that calling is to lift up the name of Jesus. Be exalted in my life. Anoint this message, that all who hear and read it might be drawn closer to you and filled with your Spirit. Let these words quicken us all in our inner most being, that we would be more like Jesus and do that which you have called each of us to. In Jesus name I pray Amen!

You have been called with a supernatural calling. You have been chosen out of the billions and billions of people upon this earth for such a time as this.

Today I want to show you just a couple of the reason why God may have chose you, and in discovering that, we will all be better equipped to do and be all that we have been chosen for.

God has great things in store for our future. You may not be exactly where you have hoped to be by now, but God has still got great plans for you. Plans that you would be of good health and prosper and have a great hope for the future.

(Jeremiah 29:11LITV)  For I know the purposes which I am planning for you, says Jehovah; purposes of peace, and not for evil; to give you posterity and a hope.

(Jeremiah29:11 CEV)  I will bless you with a future filled with hope--a future of success, not of suffering.

So what I want us to look at today is God’s selection process. By seeing why he may have chose you, you should be better able to see what you need to continue to do, in order to achieve your purpose in life, and experience personal, spiritual and emotional fulfillment.

You all most likely know the story of how Gideon took a small band of men and defeated a huge army.  He started out with a much larger group but by the time it got right down to the time of battle God had hand picked just this small group to fulfill his great plan for victory.

(Judges 7:2 CEV)  The LORD said, "Gideon, your army is too big. I can't let you win with this many soldiers. The Israelites would think that they had won the battle all by themselves and that I didn't have anything to do with it.

If there is one thing that we can all benefit from in every area of our lives it would be to put God first. Less of us, and more of Him. By making God your first priority and giving Him all the glory, not only do we have a much higher standard to live up to, and a holy cause to fight for, but the rewards are eternality greater.

God did not want the Israelites to take all the glory for this victory. God wants you to know that it is He who is, working all things together for your good. If you have been putting your money in a bag with a hole in it, if you have been working and working and working and still getting no where, maybe you should stop and think about who you are really working for. Who do you want to get the glory for this victory. Take the spot light off yourself and turn it upon the LORD!

It is not all about you! I know that might come to as a shock to many of you, but God is the one who deserves all the praise and honor and glory! And when you are sincerely able to give Him the glory for all your efforts then he not only shares his glory with you but he lifts you up and gives you your heart's desires.

So here in this account of Gideon we can see how God begins to separate the wheat from the chaff. The first thing we see is God separates the unfaithful.

Now, Please do not get offended if you feel as if you might fit in any of these groups that went back home. The first thing you need to know is that you have already been chosen as one of the faithful. If you are reading this today you have already passed the test and even now are being equipped for the victory to come.

(Judges 7:3 KJV)  Now therefore go to, proclaim in the ears of the people, saying, Whosoever is fearful and afraid, let him return and depart early from mount Gilead. And there returned of the people twenty and two thousand; and there remained ten thousand.

Fear is the lock that keeps us from going forward with anything. Some people are afraid of failure, some are afraid of success. Some people are just afraid of even trying. Some people are afraid of rejection. Some people are afraid of being ridiculed. Fear is not of God. The Bible tells us that God did not give us the spirit of fear….

(2Timothy 1:7 KJV)  For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

The opposite of fear is faith!

We have seen in our own lives how God is able. He has never left us nor forsaken us and he never will. If you have made it this far in your life….. Well, it is nothing less than a miracle.  And if you have seen the hand of God move in your life in the past you can trust him to continue to move now in the present and onto the end of the world. He is the same, yesterday, today and forever….. Amen?   AMEN!

So God’s first prerequisite is that you have faith in him. Gideon lost 22,000 men because of their lack of faith. That left him with 10,000. But God was not done with his selection process.

(Judges 7:4 LITV)  And Jehovah said to Gideon, The people are still too many. Bring them down to the water, and I will refine them for you there. And it shall be, he of whom I say to you, this one shall go with you, he shall go with you. And any of whom I shall say to you, This one shall not go with you, he shall not go.

I want you to notice how I used different translations of the text. In the translation above the main difference is in the word most translation define as "test." Here it is translated "refined."  In the King James Version it is translated “try them.” The original Hebrew might give us a better knowledge of how God chooses His people.

A primitive root; to fuse (metal), that is, refine (literally or figuratively): - cast, (re-) fine (-er), founder, goldsmith, melt, pure, purge away, try.

The main word that sticks out here to me is “fuse. God is fusing his people together. He desires His church to be one. God wants you to get to know each other and to really love one another. Remember how Jesus said it is by your love for one another that the world will know that you are His disciple.

(John 13:35)  By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

What is interesting to me is the way God separates His people in this next test, if you will….

(Judges 7:5)  When Gideon led his army down to the spring, the LORD told him, "Watch how each man gets a drink of water. Then divide them into two groups--those who lap the water like a dog and those who kneel down to drink."

What a strange test. I mean, what difference does it make how you get a drink of water? Interestingly to me, is the fact of how this test fits so closely with the first. Yet, shows the balance we need in our own personal lives. The men who just knelt down and started to drink the water, had no concern for what was going on around them. Their whole focus became pleasing themselves and getting that drink of water. I am sure they were all very thirsty. To fully understand this you have to get a picture of the different ways the men were drinking. The ones that were kneeling down and drinking were lowering their heads down into the water getting their fill of the cold refreshing drink.

The ones who were lapping the water like a dog kept their eyes on what was taking place around them and lifted the water with their hands to their mouths and drank while always keeping watch.

You have been chosen by God because you have sought the truth, which can only be found in Him. You did not except every wind of doctrine and simple believed what some teacher, or family member or any of your peers have told you. God desires people who seek the truth.  And God wants you to always be watching.  We have a very real enemy and the closer you get to victory the harder the enemy is going to fight you. And this enemy is very good at deception. So you must always be on the outlook for his attack.

I talked about how this fit in with the first test of faith, yet at first glance you might think it is opposite. Because if you have faith, then why should you have to worry about the enemy at all? After all is not the battle the LORD’s? Then why should we even have to keep a close eye on anything?

God has chosen you because he knows that you are able. God has chosen you because you are faithful. God has chosen you because you are humble. God has chosen you because you are not easily moved. God has chosen you because you can keep watch over his flock. God has chosen you to be his hands and His feet and His mouth piece. God has chosen you to win the battle and to give Him all the glory for it.

Your faith is not a blind faith it is watchful faith. God has great things in store for you but if you just sit back and watch from the sidelines, nothing will go forward. You have got to be in full participation. You have got to run the race. You have got to sound the trumpet. You have got to use what God has given you in order to know that you are being used of God.

I remember when I first really converted to Christianity. I asked God above all things to use me. Then I felt like I was sitting on a shelf gathering dust for years. It is time for all of us to get off the shelf and get into the game. It is time for you to do and be all that God has called you to. It is time for great victory in your life. It is time to fulfill your call, to reach for that potential that is within you and win the crown of life.

Gideon was down to only 300 people going against 100,000. Sometimes we feel out numbered. Sometimes we feel as if the cards are stacked against us. Sometimes you might feel as if there is no hope. And the truth is that of yourself, there is no hope. But you are not in this battle alone.

We have to stop looking at Jesus as that little baby in the manger and see him as the almighty God of all creation. All power and authority is in His hands and if he dwells in your heart then you have the fullness of God within you.

Now, let’s quickly look at how Gideon won this battle.

(Judges 7:19-22)  Gideon and his group reached the edge of the enemy camp a few hours after dark, just after the new guards had come on duty. Gideon and his soldiers blew their trumpets and smashed the clay jars that were hiding the torches.  The rest of Gideon's soldiers blew the trumpets they were holding in their right hands. Then they smashed the jars and held the burning torches in their left hands. Everyone shouted, "Fight with your swords for the LORD and for Gideon!" The enemy soldiers started yelling and tried to run away. Gideon's troops stayed in their positions surrounding the camp  and blew their trumpets again. As they did, the LORD made the enemy soldiers pull out their swords and start fighting each other. The enemy army tried to escape from the camp. They ran to Acacia Tree Town, toward Zeredah, and as far as the edge of the land that belonged to the town of Abel-Meholah near Tabbath.

The Army of Gideon waited upon the LORD and then lit up the night and sounded the trumpet. We need to sound the trumpet and light up the night. You my friend have been chosen by God from the foundations of the Earth. By your reading this alone, should prove to yourself that you do have the faith to believe that God is on your side. And if God be for us then who can be against us? Secondly you are not blindly following any wind of doctrine. You keep a diligent eye out for any deception or attack from any enemy.

God has chosen you because you are a person after His own heart. You have a genuine love for your fellow man. You seek the truth and you desire to do what is right.

I know, I know we are all human and have failed in the past, but the race is not over. The Battle is still the LORD's and you are still in it. Look at how Gideon's army won that battle. They surrounded the enemy. They did not let the enemy sneak up on them. Be watchful, be on the offense. Even though they were few in number they were not afraid, for the believed in their cause. They knew that God was on their side.

Are you ready to stop the enemy form robbing you of your joy, of your health, of your peace, of your relationships, of your finances, of your love? Are you ready to believe God and be the warrior that you have been called to be?

It is time to bring your light out and turn the night into day. It is time to blow the trumpet of victory and hear the sound of the truth ringing in your ears. It is time to smash the vessels that have been holding you back and go forward against all the strongholds that have come to kill, rob and to destroy. It is time for you to live, really live the abundant life that Christ died for you to enjoy.

Have faith, be vigilant and get ready for God's glory to shine in and through you.

Amen?.... AMEN?
