Light at The End of The Tunnel
What is thought to be the oldest book in the Bible is actually the book of Job. If you remember, Job was put through the fire. He was a man who had it all and it was all taken away from him. I want us to visit him while he is sitting on the dung heap where he sees no light at the end of the tunnel. Someone reading this today might be feeling that there is no light at the end of the tunnel. You might be thinking that you are in a dead end job, or that there is no hope for your relationships. Someone reading this today might be feeling the pain of physical illness and they have been sick so long that they do not see any hope in sight. Someone might be on the brink of financial ruin and see no way out. The first thing I want you to know is that there is hope. Secondly, although, no one might not know exactly how you feel, you are not alone. Thirdly I want you to remember who you are in the L- -D, not in yourself, but who you are in Christ. Before we go any further let’s pray together and ask the Holy Spirit to speak to us through this message today.
Heavenly Father, we come before you with a humble heart asking for your intervention in our affairs. We need you. Right now I turn over my life to you, yielding my will, my hopes, my failures and my dreams over to you. Have your way in my life. It is in the name of Jesus that I ask you to fill me with your Holy Spirit and reveal to us today your plans and purpose for our lives. Even though we may have to walk through the valley of the shadow of Death, we will fear no evil because you are with us. You are our strength, you are my hope, you are the light at the end of this tunnel and your promises never fail. Open our eyes today that we would see Jesus; for it is in His name we pray Amen!
OK, so here is Job…
(Job 3 1-5 The Message)Then Job broke the silence. He spoke
up and cursed his fate:
"Obliterate the day I was born. Blank out the night I was conceived! Let it be a black hole in space. May God above forget it ever happened. Erase it from the books! May the day of my birth be buried in deep darkness, shrouded by the fog, swallowed by the night.
And then he goes on and on. And if that isn’t bad enough his, so called friends come and trying to console him basically tell him that he brought it all on himself. Doesn’t that help when someone tells you that. You might know that it’s true, but having someone tell you that sure doesn’t help does it?
There is a deeper message here then just getting through tough times. There is a deeper purpose to life then just living. There is a great quote from Job that we all most likely know that tells us a lot of how we should live;
( Job 13:15a KJV) Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him:
What a great expression. Much like the song that I have been working on that talks about choosing to bless the name of the L- - D in both good times and bad. It is a lot easier said then done isn’t it? But what I want us to do before we rave at the statement that Job made is to look at the whole thing in context and see how it is our relationships with others that determine our real relationship with G-D.
Job’s friends have been telling him that all of this misfortune must have been brought on by Job’s own sin or bad choices. Don’t you love that? Bad choices! Man have I made some bad choices in my life. But they looked so good at the time. Kind of like when Lot chose the green pasture land near Sodom. It sure looked like a good choice at the time.
I am far too often reminded of the idea of short term pleasure and long term pain. I just need to turn that around and grasp the idea of short term pain for the long term pleasure. Abraham took the high ground, even though it was rocky, in the end he was the one that prospered.
But listen to job’s “friends.”
( Job 11:5 & 6 KJV) But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against thee; And that he would shew thee the secrets of wisdom, that they are double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacteth of thee less than thine iniquity deserveth.
( Job 11:6 The Message) But you can be sure of this, you haven't gotten half of what you deserve.
Have you ever sought comfort from someone only to have them to basically tell you that you needed to repent and they get all preachy on you? That always makes you feel better, doesn’t it? NO? HMMMMMM. Go figure!
Usually it does to you exactly what it did to Job and he started to rationalize and defend himself and his decisions.
( Job 13:4-6 KJV) But ye are forgers of lies, ye are all physicians of no value. O that ye would altogether hold your peace! and it should be your wisdom. Hear now my reasoning, and hearken to the pleadings of my lips.
Now in the Message…..
(Job 13: 4-6 The Message) You're a bunch of pompous quacks! I wish you'd shut your mouths— silence is your only claim to wisdom. "Listen now while I make my case, consider my side of things for a change.
It is as we read on in this chapter that we come to our scripture verse where Job says; “Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him:” But now let’s read it in context and try to apply all of this to our own lives:
(Job 13 15&16 KJV) Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him. He also shall be my salvation: for an hypocrite shall not come before him.
So basically he is talking to his accusers and telling them who he is and where his faith lies. There is an accuser who loves to put you down and keep you from being the man or woman that G-D has designed you to be.
You have to decide who’s report you are going to believe. (Isaiah 53: 1 Amplified Version) WHO HAS believed (trusted in, relied upon, and clung to) our message [of that which was revealed to us]? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been disclosed?
Who are you? What is your core made up of? All we need do is to open our eyes and see the light. And the light is with-in you. Do not let the accuser of the brethren make you believe the lie that there is no hope. There is always hope. There is always a way out. Don’t you give up on G-D and Don’t you give up and yourself. And don’t you give up on those people who, though they might have hurt you, were really only trying to help.
You are the head and not the tail. Do you need to see that in scripture?
And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:
Yes; there is an “IF” involved in it but there is also a choice for you to make “Today.” Yes you might have, or you might not have caused your circumstances. Does it really even matter at this point? The fact is you’re in it. The good news is that there is a way out. The good news is that there is hope. The good news is that there is a bright light at the end of the tunnel and that light is in you.
Job in the end was more blessed then he was at the start. But the first thing he had to do was to make that link between his relationship with G-D to his relationship with his friends.
There is a direct coloration between your relationship with G-D and your relationship with the people around you. And the answer is that you have to make the effort. You have to be the one that draws close to G-D. Remember He never moved, you did. You are the one that is going to have to make the effort to not only restore your relationships with the people around you; you have to be the one that makes those relationships better than they ever were before.
I have talked to a lot of people going through some deep depression this past week. The answer is not isolation, the answer is relations.
No matter where you are at in your life right now, G-D wants you to know that He loves you with a never-ending, supernatural love that outshines the sun. If you are in physical pain or emotionally upset, take heart, you can use the trial that you are going through to comfort others who might be facing the same hard times. You are not alone and there are people who really do love and care about you. If it is financial problems you are facing, well, you are definitely not alone in that one, and G-D has seen all of us through harder times then these. And He will pull us through this one. And if you, like me and a lot of other people I know, at times, maybe even lately, have just felt like there is no light at the end of the tunnel, then I want you to look within yourself and see that light of G-D’s love still shining bright within you. You have purpose and you are so precious to the Father. Let Him be your strength, Let Him guide you through this hard time. And listen to the one thing He tells us over and over in His word: “Fear Not for He is With You!”
I would like to pray once again with you. And this time I am going to give you the opportunity to give your heart to Jesus. This is the day of your salvation. This is the day that all eternity opens up to you. For those of you who have accepted Jesus already, it sure won’t hurt us to ask Him again to take center place in our lives. So let’s all pray together and allow the Holy Spirit to overtake us with G-D’s blessings.
Father G-D, forgive me. I am a sinner. I have made some bad choices and went my own way. I believed things that were not true, but right now I am putting my trust in the truth. Jesus said that He was the way, the truth and the life and that no one comes to the Father but by Him. With that very truth I come to you and ask that you accept me as I accept Jesus as my savior and my L- -D. Let your Holy Spirit not only come upon me but fill me to the overflowing with the truth of who I am in You. Help me to show my love for You by expressing your love to others. Help me to forgive others as you have forgiven me. And I pray in the Name of Jesus that your light open a way for me to shine, that I might bring you glory. Let your perfect will be done in my life that you would be glorified throughout all the nations. In Jesus name. AMEN!
If you have prayed that prayer with me and really accepted Christ as your savior, you are born again. Behold all things have become new. All of your sins are forgiven and today is the first day of all of eternity. All the blessings of the Father are yours. You are joint heirs with Christ. It is time to rejoice. Let the darkness be dispersed and shine on!
