Heavenly Father; Forgive us all for we are all sinners in need of a savior. I am that sinner in need of you. For only God can  forgive sins. Change my heart, as I change my mind. Right now I turn all of my thoughts away from the things of this world and put my attention upon your kingdom. I seek your kingdom. Let your will be done in me and through me; In Jesus name I pray Amen

There was a man walking in the woods when suddenly he heard a loud noise behind him. He turned and saw this huge bear coming straight at him. The man first began to run then he found himself praying….LORD; Please let this bear be a Christian bear…… The bear got closer and closer as the man ran faster and faster and prayed harder and harder….”LORD PLEASE, LET THIS BEAR BE A CHRISTIAN BEAR! Finally the man ran into a dead end and could run no further. He turned around and there was the bear just about upon him. The man again prayed to God that the bear be a Christian bear…… Suddenly the bear stopped,…….. bowed his head and folder his hands in front of him and the bear prayed…. “Father thank you for this meal I am about to receive.”………..

I guess he should have prayed for a vegetarian, Christian bear.

There were a couple of points I really wanted to make today with that story….. I just can’t think of any of them right now…. however…..

One thing I do know about real Christians….. And I guess I can see this about all people in some form or another.  But a real follower of Christ wants to be a better person. They want to try harder next time. They want to turn over a new leaf. They want to make the world a better place then the way they found it.

But the truth is sometimes we all fall short. The problem comes when we accept too easily this falling short. If we take it for granted that we are going to fail…. Guess what? We will fail. But if you know that you have the victory, it will be literally impossible to defeat you.

What is it you want from God today? I do not think that is a bad question to ask. Some people will tell you to ask not what God can do for you but ask what you can do for God…. And that is a very valid point because if God did nothing else for me for the rest of eternity, what He has already done is worthy enough of all my worship and praise and honor for ever and ever…. Amen?  AMEN!!!!

But God really wants you to be happy. He wants you to be blessed. He wants you to live the abundant life. So….. what is it you want from God today?

Some one might say. My health. Others might say, romance, or love. Some, OK, most of us want more money!

It might be one or all of those things or something completely different that you want from God, but what ever it is, search your heart and mind and discover it. Some might piously say…”OH, just a closer walk with thee…… Grant it Jesus is my plea…. Daily walking close to thee…. Let it Be OH LORD….Let it be!

As most of you know I have been radically delivered from drugs and alcohol. I am not in recovery, I have been delivered. I was in and out of recovery for many years before I was delivered. And in fact I think it is fair to say that I have been delivered more than once, for more than one thing…..

Can I get a witness????

Is there anyone who has been there and is so happy to now be set free? It is the greatest feeling in the world. And now before you start thinking that I am knocking recovery groups hear me out. There are lot of great real life tools that are taught in the 12 step recovery groups and I think these tools can be used in everyone’s lives every day. However I know that the Kingdom of God is an upside down kingdom.

For example one of the fundamental teachings of recovery is that we shouldn’t get too hungry, angry, lonely or tired…. The Acronym for that is H.A.L.T.

The whole idea is that we need to get in touch with our feelings and discover the triggers that set us off into any given undesirable behavior. Then stop, or HALT before we do something stupid.

And that makes complete and total sense. If you find yourself, over worked, and hungry, or really lonely and mad… chances are you are going to end up doing something that you will regret. But for most of us that is just common sense. Now the Kingdom of God tells us to get real hungry, be angry, get alone and don’t be weary…..

How can that be good for us? First, let’s look at it one by one.

Hunger…. We all get hungry, everyday. The question is what are you hungry for?

God wants you to be hungry for Him. He is a jealous God and knows how far you can go off track if you follow the hunger in your gut instead of the hunger in your spirit. So you have to make the hunger in your spirit more hungry than the hunger in your belly.

(Matthew 5:6)  Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

In other words God is telling you to go after Him with a hunger in your heart. He does not answer to some mamby-pamby, now I lay me down to sleep…. Whatever, prayer. It is the effectual, fervent prayer that availith much.

(James 5:16)  Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

Effectual fervent=

From G1756; to be active, efficient: - do, (be) effectual (fervent), be mighty in, shew forth self, work (effectually in).

Do you want what you thought about earlier from God? Then seek Him for it. Diligently seek Him. Knock and the door will be opened.

Stop with this luke warm Christianity. Get on fire for God before he spews you out of his mouth.

And that leads us right into the next one….. GO ahead and get angry. But make sure you know what you are really angry at. Get angry at your sin. Get angry with the devil always trying to deceive you and keep you down. Get angry with the things that are going on around you that you know are not right. Someone once said that acceptance is participation. If you put up with something going on that you know is wrong it is the same as you doing the thing. It is like harboring a fugitive, or a terrorist. If you let someone you know is a murderer hide in your house, you are just as guilty of that murder as the person who committed the crime. The Blood is on your hands.

Get angry…. Go and sin no more!!! Make up your mind right now that today is going to be a new day and you are not going to fail. You can not fail! Get angry at that defeatist attitude and kick it out. Call upon the name of the LORD and you will be made whole!

(Ephesians 4:26)  Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

But you know what? It can not be your Grandma calling upon the LORD for ya. It can not be your Mom or your Dad or your Brother or your sister. It has to be you, standing in the need of prayer. You have got to get up close and personal. You have got to get alone with God. You have got to get in your prayer closet, go up to the mountain, out to the beach, under your covers. You have got to shut out the noise and listen to that still small voice that is telling you….

“I love you!”

Yes, the fellowship is important and you should not forsake it as many do, but you need more than just Sunday morning service, You even need more than Sunday morning, Sunday night, Wednesday and Friday night. You need alone time. Private one on one time between you and God. And don’t tell me you are too tired.

(Matthew 14:23)  And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.

Too tired, to pray? Too tired to read your Bible? Too tired to help out a neighbor? Too tired for God?

If you are trying to use that excuse than you need to start getting, not only a physical work out, but you need to get a spiritual work out. You need to do your push ups, by getting on your face before God. You need to do your sit ups by sitting up and paying attention to what God is saying to you. You need to start running the race set before you.

(Isaiah 40:31)  But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

(Matthew 11:28)  Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

HALT! Get Hungry for God!

Get angry at your sin

Get up close and personal alone time with God.

Be not weary in well doing. Run the race for the prize before you!

What is it you want from God?

Now? What is it you need.

Do you need deliverance? Do you need healing? Do

you need love, joy, peace….. You can find it all in Jesus.

The secret is simple Seek ye first the kingdom of heaven and all these things will follow.

Are you ready to make that decision to go after God like never before right Now?

Are you ready for a change? Are you ready to really become more than a conqueror, from this moment forward?

If you are then pray this prayer with me and know that God is even right now making all things…. All things, new.

Are You Ready????

Let’s pray together and receive:

Dear LORD! I am ready! I am ready for you to take control. I give you full control of my life. All my wants and needs and hopes and dreams, I turn over to you with all thanks giving. I am asking You Jesus to come into my heart like never before. Be the center of my attention. Be my heart’s desire. Fill me right now with the Holy Spirit to the over flowing that I might know, really know the fullness of God working in me and through me.  I accept you now. I accept your forgiveness. I accept your Love. I accept your perfect plan for my life. Guide me in it that I might bring you glory all the days of my life and into eternity. In Jesus name I praise you Father for the change in me today. AMEN!!!!
